Some exciting events unfolded this Easter weekend, as it marked HBUFC’s first time hosting the Sir Stanley Matthews International Tournament (SSMIT) 🥳. This was brought to life through the collaboration of HBUFC, the Stoke City Community Trust and the Sir Stanley Matthews Foundation.
The tournament kicked off on the 15th of April 2022 and saw many talented football teams such as Belinda Kings FA, Ubuntu FA, Qava FC, Salesian FC, Young Chiefs, Good Hope LFA, HBUFC and so many more! Sadly, we had to bid farewell to these talented individuals to on the 17th of April 2022, when the tournament came to an end. The commencement of the tournament was filled with boundless energy and fun, excellent sportsmanship and outstanding talent that will not go unnoticed.
Rory Wichman and Sinawo “Gift” Manyandela, two talented HBUFC Under 14 (U14) players, who have been part of the club for the past seven years, shared some of their views on the tournament with us. Although Rory and Gift both enjoyed the tournament, they were quite disheartened at their loss during the semi-finals. Having played many tournaments before, the team will nonetheless bounce back and return stronger as they anxiously await the tournament next year🤩.
A special thanks to all teams that participated in this Easter League Tournament and we hope to see you next year once again!
